Jungle Cross Summary PictureThe Jungle Cross "Tahan" II race is something new and a little different. It's an endurance race of between 3 and 4 hours (dending on category) that allows riders to race as an individual, a pair or a team of four. There are mixed gender options for the duo and quad teams with all categories being "open" for age (15yrs+) as well as bike (MTB, All Mtn - even CX if you dare).

We also have the Men's 160 Quad which is a special category where the combined 2019 ages of the team must add up to 160 years or more.

The Races

The series will consist of the following races that will run throughout the year on dates that do not clash with other major road or mtb cycling events. The dates are:

  • Race 2: 24 March
  • Race 3: 14 April - Away Course - (TBC)
  • Race 4: 23 June - Away Course - (TBC)

More Sponsors / More Fun

In 2019 we really need the help of the community to build a vibrant and happening event. For this, we need sponsors to support the efforts to maintain and build the course, as well as provide prizes for events.

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

Please check through the frequently asked questions below. If you can't find the answer you're most welcome to drop us a question here.

Q: Do I need a SCF or UCI licence for this race?

A: No but we encourage you to purchase the SCF annual licence which includes insurance. We do strongly advise that you have some form of medal insurance that covers competitive sports.

Q: Can I register on the day?

A: No - You must register on the website and registration will be closing Thursday 6pm before each Sunday event. Final sign in and timing chip pickup will be on the day. You just need to come 40 minutes before the scheduled start of your race.

Q: How do I collect my Race Bib and Timing Chip?

A: Please be at the Centaurs Sports Park at least 40 minutes before your race to sign in and pick up your timing chip and race number.

Please note: Timing chips and race numbers must be returned after your race (they are worth $100 so we must get them back)

Q: Can I cancel my booking once entered?

A: No, once paid, your entry is confirmed and nontransferable.

Q: Is this a time based race?

A: Yes correct - the winners will be those who complete the most number of laps after the cut-off time for each race event.

Q: How many laps does each team member have to do in Duo and the Quad Race?

A: A minimum of one lap each.

Q: Can I have multiple runs (ie swapping in and out)?

A: Yes it's up to the team to decide how they manage their race, whether each member has one session or multiple sessions.

Q: How do you manage the timing?

A: There will be a "timing chip" per team which is passed to a new member in the "transition zone" located on the top field.

Q: Can I create a team from multiple clubs?

A: Yes you can. Each team member can then earn points for their own individual as well as club effort.

Q: So there are SCF points for this event?

A: Yes (pending approval from SCF) we are running the B Points Table for all "Tahan" events (Single, Pairs and Quads) meaning each person has the opportunity to win points starting at 75,65,55,50,45,40,35,30,25,20,16,12,10,8,6.

Q: Is there a separate All Mountain team category?

A: No - but you can use All Mountain bikes in any of the categories if you like.

Q: How can I warm up before my race?

A: Please use surround roads (non-circuit) of Turf City and take caution and ensure you are back in time for your start time.

Q: Do you have medics on hand in case of emergency?

A: Yes we have a full medical team stationed at the event and ambulances on standby.

Q: I'd like to help out (volunteer) on the day - is that possible?

A: Absolutely - we always need help running these events. Please drop us a message here.

Technical / T&C's

Jungle Cross Race Categories

2019 National Points and 2019 National Championship races will follow defined Race Categories for both Male and Female. The race categories are based on age which is determined by present year minus year of birth (e.g. 2019-2000 is 19yrs).

Jungle Cross "Tahan" Event

This is a special race where all riders are treated equal within their tahan category.

  • Men's Open Individual - Open to men 13years + MTB/ALL MTN
  • Men's Open Duo - Open to men 13years + MTB/ALL MTN
  • Mixed Open Duo - Open to everyone 13years + MTB/ALL MTN (at least one female who must complete at least one lap)
  • Men's Open Quad - Open to men 13years + MTB/ALL MTN
  • Mixed Open Quad - Open to everyone 13years + MTB/ALL MTN (at least one female who must complete at least one lap)
  • Men's Open 160  - Open to everyone 13years + MTB/ALL MTN (combined age of 4 riders must be equal or greater than 160 years)

Points Awarded

For the Jungle Cross Tahan II event, the B Points Band will be used. Every individual, piar or team who places will receive the allocated points from B Points Band, regardless of their actual SCF carded category. The idea is to reward all for this "fun / team" event with points that meaningful but not excessive.

2019 Points Table

Volunteer Points

Each participant has the option of “earning” 60 points by volunteering to assist in SCF / Event Sanctioned events (Road or MTB). A rider can nominate an individual (e.g. Mother / Friend) to undertake the volunteering. A rider may volunteer more than once, but only 60 points will be allocated to each rider and counted to their year-end total.

Race Rules

Unless otherwise stated here, the Jungle Cross series will follow the UCI rules for a MTB XCO event. Riders should be familair with UCI race rules, in particular the feed / technical zone and "pull-out" rules.

2019 SCF License

If you would like to be in the SCF 2019 Points Competition, then you will need a SCF 2019 License. You may compete in any category without a license, however you will not be awarded any 2019 SCF points. Please note the Sports category does not receieve any points.

Race Insurance

Please note that all riders should have their own insurance that covers them for MTB race activities. If an ambulance is required to take you to hospital, the cost of the ambulance will also be charged to the individual.

Race Number

Your race number should be clearly shown on the front of your bike (normally attached in front of teh handlebars). Please do not bend, fold or cut your number plate - you maybe disqualified in such cases.

Race Attire / Helmet

All riders must use a safety certified bicycle helmet. Your shirt can not be sleeveless. If you are unsure of your attire, please consult a commissaire before the race.

Mechanic and Feed Zone

The feedzone is located at the furthest Centaurs Tent (towards the paintball area). Depending on the race setup (and whether there are children's events), feeders may have to support riders outside of the tent cover, reducing congestion and looking after the little ones in the area. Supporters should only use this area to support their riders. The feedzone will be clearly marked on the day.

Please note that any technical problems with your bike during the race must be addressed within the Mechanic / Feed Zone.

Staging Area

There is a staging area just next to the start / finish arch where riders for the next race will gather and get ready for their race. In this way riders are more prepared for their race and there is less time needed between the start of each new race / wave. You should be at the staging area at least 15 minutes before the scheudled start of your race.

Pull Out

If you are lapped by the lead rider, the marshals can pull you out of the race, depending on the number of riders still participating. You will be advised to "pull out" just before the start / finish, however you can go through the Start / Finish gantry to record the lap and immediately pull out after this.

Riders may also be "pulled out" once the lead rider has finished. If riders are too far behind on their final lap(s) they will be pulled to ensure the course schedule is maintained.

Category Placings

Even if you do not finish the race, we will "place" you according to how many laps you completed and the time. In this way if riders fail to complete all their laps due to time constraints, they will still have a recorded placing that is fair and can receive season points if they have an 2019 SCF annual license.
