Jungle Cross Summary PictureThe Jungle Cross series enters it's 4th year in 2019. Over the years we have strived to make the Turf City course better for riders of all levels, whether a young beginner or a seasoned elited rider. The course is now nearly 4km in length and boasts terrain that is both challenging and beautiful. It's quite remarkable that such a course can exist in the middle of urban Singapore.

The Races

The series will consist of the following races that will run throughout the year on dates that do not clash with other major road or mtb cycling events. The dates are:

  • Race 1: 10 February
  • Race 2: TBA
  • Race 3: TBA
  • Race 4: TBA
  • Race 5: TBA

Note:  Dates may change due to clashes or poor weather conditions (haze).  Each race will be confirmed and open for registration one month before. Please do let us know if there is a potential clash in the calendar.

Race Categories

Race categories for MTB and All Mountian are currently being finalised.

More Sponsors / More Fun

In 2019 we really need the help of the community to build a vibrant and happening event. For this, we need sponsors to support the efforts to maintain and build the course, as well as provide prizes for events.

Course

Sport and CX Course

The first race of the day will use the enhanced Sport and CX course with both groups racing at the same time. The Cyclo-cross riders will enjoy a course similar to last year with minor tweaks, while the Sport MTB riders will be the first to enjoy the new Noodle Run that follows the stream. We have also added the Chantik Hutan for sports riders.

MTB Sport Circuit JC1

MTB Pro Course

The pro course will be used by All Mountain, Supermasters, Junior A, Masters and Open Riders. The enhanced pro course included 4 new B runs for those stepping up from the Sport category. On the Kiwi S there is also a new jump (yet to confirm opening for JC1).

Points Awarded

Jungle Cross races will be awarded points over four points bands, A, B, C & D with Open taking the highest points and other age categories taking the lower bands. The idea is to reward riders who selected higher race categories by giving them more points which they can accumulate over the season.

2019 Points Table

Volunteer Points

Each participant has the option of “earning” 60 points by volunteering to assist in SCF / Event Sanctioned events (Road or MTB). A rider can nominate an individual (e.g. Mother / Friend) to undertake the volunteering. A rider may volunteer more than once, but only 60 points will be allocated to each rider and counted to their year-end total.

Race Rules

Unless otherwise stated here, the Jungle Cross series will follow the UCI rules for a MTB XCO event. Riders should be familair with UCI race rules, in particular the feed / technical zone and "pull-out" rules.

2019 SCF License

If you would like to be in the SCF 2019 Points Competition, then you will need a SCF 2019 License. You may compete in any category without a license, however you will not be awarded any 2019 SCF points. Please note the Sports category does not receieve any points.

Race Insurance

Please note that all riders should have their own insurance that covers them for MTB race activities. If an ambulance is required to take you to hospital, the cost of the ambulance will also be charged to the individual.

Race Number

Your race number should be clearly shown on the front of your bike (normally attached in front of teh handlebars). Please do not bend, fold or cut your number plate - you maybe disqualified in such cases.

Race Attire / Helmet

All riders must use a safety certified bicycle helmet. Your shirt can not be sleeveless. If you are unsure of your attire, please consult a commissaire before the race.

Mechanic and Feed Zone

The feedzone is located at the furthest Centaurs Tent (towards the paintball area). Depending on the race setup (and whether there are children's events), feeders may have to support riders outside of the tent cover, reducing congestion and looking after the little ones in the area. Supporters should only use this area to support their riders. The feedzone will be clearly marked on the day.

Please note that any technical problems with your bike during the race must be addressed within the Mechanic / Feed Zone.

Staging Area

There is a staging area just next to the start / finish arch where riders for the next race will gather and get ready for their race. In this way riders are more prepared for their race and there is less time needed between the start of each new race / wave. You should be at the staging area at least 15 minutes before the scheudled start of your race.

Pull Out

If you are lapped by the lead rider, the marshals can pull you out of the race, depending on the number of riders still participating. You will be advised to "pull out" just before the start / finish, however you can go through the Start / Finish gantry to record the lap and immediately pull out after this.

Riders may also be "pulled out" once the lead rider has finished. If riders are too far behind on their final lap(s) they will be pulled to ensure the course schedule is maintained.

Category Placings

Even if you do not finish the race, we will "place" you according to how many laps you completed and the time. In this way if riders fail to complete all their laps due to time constraints, they will still have a recorded placing that is fair and can receive season points if they have an 2019 SCF annual license.

Kid's

Jungle Cross Kids Races

In a new initiative spearheaded by sports coach Hairal, Jungle Cross will have a Kid's MTB clinic and fun race on a newly designed kid's MTB course. The concept has the full backing of Cycospoprts and the Centaurs Sports Park with support from Singapore Cycling Federation. This is an introductory clinic aimed at developing the bike handling and mountain biking skills of the next generation of riders.

After completing the hour clinic, the kids can participate in a fun race under controlled guidance. We also encourage riders under 10 years of age to be accompanied by their parents.

Youth Categories:

  • 5-7 Beginner – Boys/Girls
  • 8-10 Sport – Boys/Girls (with race experience)
  • 11-12 Sport – Boys/Girls (with race experience)

The Clinic

JC3KidsClinic

    • How to ride and balance, in control and efficiency. Learn correct body position, balance and weight placement for climbing and descending (ramps/table top).
    • How to brake effectively (no skidding!)
    • How to look ahead correctly - how this effects the riding and how to improve their vision skills no matter how rough and rocky the trail is
    • How bikes corner, how to corner and balance, using vision to corner faster, easier with more control - advanced cornering with drills
