Tour de Kepri 2018

4 Stage Tour

Indonesia

27 Sep 2018 to 30 Sep 2018

The Tour de Kepri will make its debut in 2018 based on the year's of the success of the many years that Cycosports has been running the Tour de Barelang (aka Batam Six Bridges) single day race. Rest assured, the Barelang race remains and will be the final day (and most probably the decider) for the Tour de Kepri. The new three-day tour extends to the sister island of Bintan where a night criterium will be held on the Friday and Saturday will see a second stage featuring many of the landmarks that riders of the region know well. We are extremely excited to be offering this fantastic 3 day race that we believe will become a classic on the Asian calendar.

Tour de Kepri has it all - Exciting Racing, Tough Stages, Scenic Beauty and a Great Atmosphere.

___________

27-30 Sept 2018

Kepri OverviewIn 2018 Cycosports is launching the Tour de Kepri, a fantastic 4 Stage Tour that we know will become a feature on the Asia amateur racing calendar.

Combining race courses that many in the region know well, the Tour de Kepri promises to provide exciting racing and hospitality throughout.

The tour is an age-category tour with an additional catch-all 'Sports Category" for those new to racing or not so serious - ie the traditional Cat 3 of Cycosports.

The Tour kicks off on Thursday evening with a Night Criterium located in the new government sector of Tanjung Pinang called Dompak. The streets are new and wide so some exciting fast-paced racing is expected.

On Friday morning the riders will head across, Bintan riding some 125km (1100m of elevation) to finish at Tanjong Uban. Here the riders can relax, enjoy lunch and then board the RORO ferry for Batam. Once we arrive in Batam, riders and bikes will be transferred to the hotel (your home for remaining 2 nights). Friday night will be an early Tour Dinner where prize giving will be included.

Saturday is Nongsa - where riders will have the opportunity to push their fellow competitors on a 12km circuit that drains the legs with every round. It's a great race circuit and requires smart thinking by the teams to optimise their chances.

And Sunday is the big day - The Classic Barelang (aka Batam Six Bridges) will come into its own, deciding the final categorization of both the GC's and the Teams.

In all, we have nearly 400km of racing across the islands of Kepri. While this is the first year for the Tour, the main components of the race have been tried and tested over many years.

We are all looking forward to an exciting 4 stages of racing.

Stage 1: TP Crit

Dual Crits on nice new roads - fast paced with a kicker of a hill that is sure to push the Pelotons

___________

Stage I

27 Sept 2018

Tanjung Pinang CriteriumOn arrival at Tanjung Pinang, riders will disembark and proceed through customs, walking across the road to the Governor's Residence.

Here riders can set up their bikes and prepare their small bag to take with them to the Criterium. Their "tagged" large bag will be loaded on the truck and checked into the riders room ready for them after the criterium. Once the riders are ready, the group will be escorted to Dompak via the scenic coastal road.

The escort is approximately 10km and allows all riders to warm up as well as check their bike over.

Kepri-Stage1

Once at Dompak, riders can deposit their small bags and prepare for their criteriums. We will be running two criteriums simultaneously on parallel courses divided by a median strip. This allows us to half the time need to run Stage 1 and ensure everyone gets to the hotel at a decent hour.

The criterium courses are on new government roads and have large sweeping corners, ideal for safe racing. Both courses do have a small "kicker" of a hill which will test the pelotons.

We are aiming for 50-minute criteriums with 3 laps added for the finish. Each crit will be counted down from 3 laps and will have a bell on the last lap.

Riders will be allowed to utilise the 1 Lap puncture / mechanical for the criterium.

We expect racing to be completed by 8:00pm. Riders will then leave their bikes* in a secure area (security guards overnight) and take a short bus trip back to the hotel.

At the hotel, we are aiming to have all riders already checked in, large bags in the room and keys ready for the riders. A light supper will also be available for riders. Massages are available at a special tour rate.

Stage 2: Bintan

A stage where the landscape is familiar with many in the region. A stage with beautiful yet demanding terrain.

___________

Stage 2

27-30 Sept 2018

Bintan

Friday morning starts will breakfast at the hotel. All riders will be requested to deposit their large bag at reception before departing on the bus (with their day bag) to the Tanjung Pinang holding area. to facilitate an early start, we will have a "mass checkout" meaning we will chase people during the RORO for any extras charged to their room.

Bikes can then be checked and day bags deposited. Racing will kickoff shortly after with a neutralised escort out of the city. Riders will then head north to Batu Sembilan before heading east along the Jalan Raya Kewel to the east coast of Bintan, where the pelotons will enjoy the flat coastal road for 15km.

Kepri_Stage2

The tour then turns left (west) and takes on the legendary "Red Road to Hell" before heading around the Tembeling area. There is essentially 40km of undulating/demanding roads before the tour settles down to a nice run into the finish at Tanjung Uban.

At this stage, riders can relax and have lunch which waiting for the other Pelotons / riders. While lunch is on, bikes will be loaded onto trucks ready for the RORO.

Once everyone is in, it's time for a relaxing hour on the RORO (Roll On Roll Off ferry). It's a slow trip, but comfy seats and complimentary leg massages and teh tarik make it a nice trip.

On arrival in Batam, riders will take the chartered buses to the hotel where their large bags will have been checked in already and room keys ready at the reception.

There will be a Tour Dinner (early) where prize giving for Stage 2 (and Stage 1) will be included.

Stage 3: Nongsa

The Nongsa Circuit is 12km of challenging beauty designed to test the mind as much as the legs.

___________

Stage 3

29 Sept 2018

NongsaSaturday 29 September (Stage 3) is one that many have ridden before - the Nongsa Circuit is 12km of rolling countryside lined with bush, hotels and golf courses. We always love coming to Nongsa as it's such a great circuit.

Once the Batam hotel is finalised (Friday and Saturday Stay) we will know the start and finish location for the day.  We are looking at a race of around 100km for the Nongsa stage, so this will mean between 6 to 8 laps of the Nongsa circuit.

Kepri-Stage3

Each lap of the circuit has 106m of elevation, so we estimate around 700 to 900m for the stage. The idea is to make Nongsa an easier stage in preparation for Barelang on the last day.

There will be a lunch and prize giving, allowing for an afternoon off to relax by the pool, go into town or get a well-deserved massage. Dinner on Saturday will be "free and easy" so teams can prepare for the final days racing wherever they choose.

As we are staying in the same hotel for Friday and Saturday, riders don't need to checkout until the Sunday.

Stage 4: Barelang

The iconic stage and a classic on the calendar - Bareland (aka Six Bridges) will test all the GC contenders and teams.

___________

Stage 4

30 Sept 2018

BarelangIt's the final day of the tour and what a way to finish.

The Barelang stage will be 125km in length with 1000m plus elevation.*

while on paper it doesn't look out of the ordinary, the reality is somewhat different.

The course covers the entire length of Batam traversing the six bridges down to the turn and then back again. The "kicker" in the past six years of running this race has been the wind at the turn and it's normally the place the pelotons are stretched to their limit.

Kepri-Stage4

Barelang is always exciting and in most years has seen solo breakaways in the last kilometres. It's a test of teamwork and making the correct call on the decisive breaks.

The iconic finish on the Barelang bridge provides a fitting climax to the tour, after which riders have a simple roll down to the Barelang Seafood Resturant for the prize giving.

The Sunday Prize Giving will include the prizes for the Barelang stage as well as the overall GC for Individuals and teams.

Afte the prize giving it's time to say goodbye to Kepri and head back to Singapore and beyond.

* The final course will be published once the hotel for Friday / Saturday is selected.

* Required Fields

Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q)

Please read the questions carefully and answer honestly.

Yes/No

1.    Has your doctor ever said that you have a heart condition and that you should only do physical activity recommended by a doctor?

Yes/No

2.    Do you feel pain in your chest when you do physical activity?

Yes/No

3.    In the past month, have you had chest pain when you were not doing physical activity?

Yes/No

4.    Do you lose your balance because of dizziness or do you ever lose consciousness?

Yes/No

5.    Do you have a bone or joint problem (for example, back, knee or hip) that could be made worse by a change in your physical activity?

Yes/No

6.    Is your doctor currently prescribing drugs (for example, water pills) for your blood pressure or heart condition?

Yes/No

7.    Do you know of any other reason why you should not do physical activity?

Yes/No

If you answered YES to one or more questions:

Consult your doctor by phone or in person BEFORE you start becoming much more physically active or BEFORE you have a fitness appraisal. Tell your doctor about the PAR-Q and which question you answered YES.

  • You may be able to do an activity you want – as long as you start slow and build up gradually. Or you may need to restrict your activities to those which are safe for you. Consults your doctor about the kinds of activities you wish to participate in and follow his/her advice.
  • Find out which community programmes are safe and helpful for you.

If you answered NO honestly to all PAR-Q questions, you can be reasonably sure to:

  • Start becoming much more physically active. Starting slowly and building up gradually is the safest and easiest way to go.
  • Take part in a fitness appraisal. This is excellent for determining your basic fitness so as to plan the best way to live actively. Evaluating your blood pressure is also strongly recommended. For readings above 144/94, consult your doctor before you become more physically active.

Delay becoming much more active:

  • If you are not feeling well because of a temporary illness such as a cold or a fever – wait until you feel better, or
  • If you are or may be pregnant – consult your doctor before you start becoming more active.
