21 Jul 2018
On the back of the successful trial event in April, the National Downhill Championships will return to Kent Ridge on the 21 July. The categories will be expanded to accommodate all SCF age and gender groupings* and we are also hoping to extend the course as well as add some man-made features. It will be an exciting day of downhill action!

The Kent Ridge downhill circuit has been developed over the years by a dedicated group of volunteers and trail builders. After a successful test event, it’s only fitting that it plays home to the National Downhill Championships.

The day will be actioned packed starting with trail runs so that all participants can have a final ride before the competition starts proper.

Seeding runs (by category) will be next, with riders off at one-minute intervals.

Once seeding is completed, the final run schedule will be published and riders will have the opportunity to race for glory with the fastest seeding’s going last in each category.

For the nationals, all SCF age and gender categories will be available for entry. Please note that this is an official SCF event so a valid annual or day license is required. Race format and safety regulations will follow those of UCI.

Route

Kent Ridge CourseThe proposed course (subjected to final approval) will start at the top of the walking path before heading into the existing downhill course that many riders know.

We are working with the team that maintains the track to determine the best course for the Nationals. The final decision will be made closer to the event, still allowing enough time for eager participants to come and try.

We are also looking at adding some man made jumps to the upper “tarmac” section of the course.

The course will be taped and ready on the Friday before the race, however, there will be no medical personnel on hand until race day itself.

Before the event, we will be seeking the community's help to come and join the regular trail builders who have worked tirelessly to improve the trail.

Schedule

The final schedule will be posted once numbers can be estimated. At a high level the day will be based on trial runs, seeding runs and then final runs.
