A Whole Day of Exciting Racing!

Here's a once in a longtime opportunity. A new set of roads have just been completed and construction of new buildings will start in September. JTC have kindly agreed to allow Cycosports and the Singapore Cycling Federation to hold a range of criterium races across the spectrum of road categories.

Cycosports will run races across the day with with a break for lunch. We encourage participants to stay, relax and cheer on their fellow cyclists. If you get hungry, Soek Seng 1954 Cafe is just down the road and a great place for a coffee and chat.

We are also introducing grades within selected age groups that will alow first time racers to compete in a field that is on par with their ability. Age Group A Grade is aimed at the faster / experienced racers who are a level below the open "elite" category, while B Grade is targeted at those new to racing or carrying a few extra kgs. For a comparison of grades please see the FAQ's tab.

By running multiple races we will also be able to keep the peloton sizes down and safety up.

The Criterium Course

SAP Route

Glourious New Roads

Located on the east side of Seletar airport, the Seletar Aerospace Park is a new development by JTC. The criterium will be held on brand new roads that are two lanes wide, have great sweeping corners and U-turns.

The area is perfect for criterium racing with a challenging circuit that will be as much about braun as it will brains.

Team / Shop Tents

Tents are most welcome and are encouraged to help keep cyclists and spectators out of the sun. Please erect your tents between lights poles 131 and 135.

Parking on Seletar Aerospace Drive is at your own risk. Even though its a 3 lane road, it is double yellow lined. We would suggest parking down Seletar Aerospace View near Soek Seng 1954.

Come Test Ride

As these are public roads, we do encourage you to come down and test the roads out in a training environment. It's a great opportunity to get to know the corners and U-turns before race day.

What Grade am I?

If you are in a category that has two grades and you are asking this question, you are most probably in Grade 2 meant for first time racers. If you are new to racing and would like to find out more, then we would very much recommend the FREE Skills Development Programme that is being run by Fahrenheit Performance and Allied World - CCN Racing. For more details please click here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please check through the frequently asked questions below. If you can't find the answer your most welcome to drop us a question here.

Q: Within my age group there is a two grades A and B - What's the difference?

A: A Grade is aimed at the faster, more experienced racer that is a level below the Open "elite" Category while B Grade targets the first time racers or those not so fast / carrying a few extra kg's. The decision is yours but try not to be a "sand bagger"

Q: In previous Cycosports events you did not have age categories and grades. How do I match your previous events to this event?

A: Please check out the table below:

Criterium Grading

Q: Can I enter two categories?

A: Technically yes, but as we believe the entries will sell out, please enter your first choice race as priority. We do want to encourage as many people as possible to participate in this event.

Q: Can I come test ride the circuit?

A: Yes - The Seletar Aerospace Park Criterium circuit is on publc roads that have just opened. Please note that these are public roads and all laws should be adhered to just like any other roads in Singapore.

Q: What time do I need to be at the event?

A: A few days before the event, we will publish a list of start times for all those who have pre-registered. We would recommend that you arrived 30 minutes before your race start time as you will still need to sign in and secure your timing chip.

Q: What type of bike can I use?

A: All Road Bikes. However, SCF appointed Marshalls will check individual bikes for safety compliance 15 minutes before the start and during the event  and ensure that the following are adhered to:

   1) Both handlebar plugs are in place

   2) No time trial bike or any extensions (i.e. aerobars, saddle bottles)

   3) Helmets must be worn

   4) Sleeve Jersey/Skinsuit (i.e. Sleeveless jersey NOT allowed)

   5) No gear ratio lockout required for Juniors

   6) No Disc Brake is allowed

In addition, all participants are requested to take note of the following:

1) act in a sporting manner at all times and must not push or interfere with another cyclists by hand or by other means, displays indecent conduct or foul language or perform acts of violence.

2) Any protest must be made within 15 minutes of the decision given rise to the claim. The SCF marshal, in consultation with the Event Director, shall then investigate and give a decision and this decision shall be irrevocable. All claims and appeals must be made in writing with a $100 non-refundable cash deposit made to the Event Organiser.

3) In the event of a tie, it will be determined by gun time/photo finish/second round – Kent, please consider one of these.

Q: Is there a category for ladies?

A: Yes there are two categories for ladies - Open and Sport. We do encourage ladies to come and try the event and feel the excitement and fun of a criterium race on a circuit that is wide with new roads. If we do not get enough ladies (20 in total), we will race both categories at the same time with Open going first followed by Sport 45 seconds behind. Still two races, but on the course at the same time.

Q: Can I register on the day?

A: It's better to register online and secure your place as a category may have sold out by race day. Also we will be charging $10 more for race day entries. You are always welcome to come down and try your luck as someone may "no show" and hence a place or two may come available.

Q: Why is their an age limit for some categories?

A: These races are considered pretty serious so you have to be a fairly experienced rider to join. If you are under 18 and have a good race history, we can consider you, providing you also have parental consent.

Q: Do I need a SCF  or UCI licence for this race?

A: Yes - the SCF license, inclusive of SCF membership and insurance, will cost a nominal fee. However, for those riders who already have a valid 2016 UCI or SCF Licence, you need not register for a “second” licence.

Q: Can I cancel my booking once entered?

A: No, once paid, your entry is confirmed and nontransferable.

Q: Can I change my race category later?

A: Only if places are available. It's probably easiest to check on the day.

Q: How can I warm up before my race?

A: The best idea is on the small streets nearby. Please take caution and also ensure you are back in time for your group's escort down to the start line.

Q: Do you have medics on hand in case of emergency?

A: Yes we have a full medical team stationed at the event and an ambulance on standby.

Q: Are their winners for each Category?

A: Yes each category will have medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Q: Where will be the Prize Giving?

A: We aim to have the prize giving on the course between subsequent races.

Q: Are you doing a team prize?

A: No - this first event is just for individuals, however your team will be listed next to your name.

Q: I'd like to help out (volunteer) on the day - is that possible?

A: Absolutely - we always need help running these events. Please drop us a message here.
