On the 25 March 2018 the URA Car Free Sunday will host the Singapore International Para Cycling Cup 2018. This is a UCI sanctioned event on the international calendar with teams invited from across the region.

The morning's racing will consist of two events. Racers will be set off in two waves:  Wave 1 - Handcyclists and Trike cyclists and Wave 2 - Tandem Cyclists and Cyclists.

Registration is now open but places are limited.

This month features the Singapore para-cycling championships with cyclists coming in from across the region to compete for UCI points.

Come down and cheer on the teams (especially Singpoare) or volunteer and help the para-cycling community

Details

Spearheaded by the Para Cycling Federation of Singapore (PCFS), this championship marks the second time that para cyclists in the region will come together in Singapore to race, after an inaugural success in 2017. Taking place on May's Car-Free Sunday, the race will guarantee an exhilarating experience for all racers and supporters, as handbikes, tandem bikes and other modified bikes tear down the roads of the city-state's central hub. In addition, this would be the first local cycling race to be sanctioned as C1 by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)! 

 

Racers will be set off in two waves: 

Wave 1 - Handcyclists and Trike cyclists 

Wave 2 - Tandem Cyclists and Cyclists  

 

The 1.7km Cecil / Robinson Road circuit will see para cyclists racing the circuit from 6:00am to 7:30am in 2 waves (40 minutes per race).

 

Calling volunteers from the cycling community

While the circuit is closed and the streets are well lighted, we want to ensure the safety of the pedestrians around the area and our participating cyclists. We need your support to be road marshals at this exciting event to ensure spectators or pedestrians in the area are clear from the circuit. Road marshals can also join in the road adrenaline and cheer on all the cyclists as they race for their records!

Join us in cheering on our local racers, as well as international racers from the region! If you are an organised group, please contact corpcomm@sdsc.org.sg to register your group for pre-arranged activities.

The Criterium Course

ACCESS - DO NOT USE THE SHENTON WAY BUS LANE 

Please do not use the Shenton Way Bus Lane to come to the event. This is a special lane setup for the buses and must not be compromised with cyclists entering. We have had specific instructions from LTA that this must be adhered to. Thank you.

 

1.7km Circuit of Fast Downtown Roads!

An awesome opportunity to race downtown, surrounded by the towering office blocks and iconic landmarks of Singapore. The circuit will follow the same direction as the URA Car Free Sunday route which officially opens to the general public at 8am on the Sunday morning.

 

NOTE: LIGHTS REQUIRED (non flash mode) for all cyclists competing.

Q: Can I register on the day?

A: No - You must register on the website and registration will be closing a few days before the event. Pickup of the chip / race pack will be at the event itself 30 minutes before the race starts.

 

Q: Do I need an UCI licence for this race?

A: Yes a UCI licence is required for this event.

 

Q: Can I cancel my booking once entered?

A: No, once paid, your entry is confirmed. Cycosports has the right to transfer an entry (bib number) to another rider if the original participant is a "no-show" on the day. There will be no refund for "no shows".

 

Q: How can I warm up before my race?

A: Please use surrounding roads (non-circuit) and take caution and ensure you are back in time for your start time.

Q: Are Disk Brake Bikes allowed in these Races?

A: Yes.

 

Q: Do you have medics on hand in case of emergency?

A: Yes we have a full medical team (2 Ambulances) are stationed at the event.

 

Q: I'd like to help out (volunteer) on the day - is that possible?

A: Absolutely - we always need help running these events. Please drop us a message here.

Due to available time and to maintain field size safety, places in each category are limited. The event organiser reserves the right to reject and refund entries if all qualifying criteria have not been met.



Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire

(PAR-Q)

Please read the questions carefully and answer honestly. Each rider will be asked to sign-off on a PAR-Q when collecting their individual race chip on the day of the event.

1.    Has your doctor ever said that you have a heart condition and that you should only do physical activity recommended by a doctor?

2.    Do you feel pain in your chest when you do physical activity?

3.    In the past month, have you had chest pain when you were not doing physical activity?

4.    Do you lose your balance because of dizziness or do you ever lose consciousness?

Yes/No

5.    Do you have a bone or joint problem (for example, back, knee or hip) that could be made worse by a change in your physical activity?

Yes/No

6.    Is your doctor currently prescribing drugs (for example, water pills) for your blood pressure or heart condition?

Yes/No

7.    Do you know of any other reason why you should not do physical activity?

Yes/No

If you answered YES to one or more questions:

Consult your doctor by phone or in person BEFORE you start becoming much more physically active or BEFORE you have a fitness appraisal. Tell your doctor about the PAR-Q and which question you answered YES.

  • You may be able to do an activity you want – as long as you start slow and build up gradually. Or you may need to restrict your activities to those which are safe for you. Consults your doctor about the kinds of activities you wish to participate in and follow his/her advice.
  • Find out which community programmes are safe and helpful for you.

If you answered NO honestly to all PAR-Q questions, you can be reasonably sure to:

  • Start becoming much more physically active. Starting slowly and building up gradually is the safest and easiest way to go.
  • Take part in a fitness appraisal. This is excellent for determining your basic fitness so as to plan the best way to live actively. Evaluating your blood pressure is also strongly recommended. For readings above 144/94, consult your doctor before you become more physically active.

Delay becoming much more active:

  • If you are not feeling well because of a temporary illness such as a cold or a fever – wait until you feel better, or
  • If you are or may be pregnant – consult your doctor before you start becoming more active.
