27 Oct 2019

The URA Car Free Sunday Criterium Races always deliver loads of fast paced action.

Each event consists of 2 or 3 races in either 30-minute or 45 minute formats.

In 2019 the criteriums will utilise a grade format to provide competitive yet safer racing. Registration for Grades A,B,C and D is open for individuals with the Annual SCF Licences, while Grade E only require valid race day insurance.

Criterium Racing at it's Best

Fast inner city racing around the very popular URA Criterium Circuit.

New Grade Racing - Please ensure you have a 2019 UCI/SCF license.

Come join the action or simply volunteer or support - a great morning of racing awaits.

The 1.7km Cecil / Robinson Road circuit will see exciting criterium races from 6:00am to 7:30am with a half hour public transition to the opening of the official opening of the circuit at 8:00am. Each event, we try to provide a racing format for various sections of the racing / cycling community.

Volunteers and Sponsors

While the roads are closed during this time, there are many pedestrians around the area. Because of the large number of intersections, we will be asking for the support of the larger cycling community to assist.

While the event is early, the streets are well lighted, so we hope the Singapore cycling community will come down and support / cheer on their fellow riders. It's only through showing that we have a vibrant and sharing cycling scene, will more opportunities come to the competitive cycling scene.

The Criterium Course

Please do not use the Shenton Way Bus Lane to come to the event. This is a special lane setup for the buses and must not be compromised with cyclists entering. We have had specific instructions from LTA that this must be adhered to. Thank you.

1.7km Circuit of Fast Downtown Roads!

An awesome opportunity to race downtown, surrounded by the towering office blocks and iconic landmarks of Singapore. The circuit will follow the same direction as the URA Car Free Sunday route which officially opens to the general public at 8am on the Sunday morning.

NOTE: LIGHTS REQUIRED (non flash mode) for all cyclists competing.

We do encourage everyone to head to the Padang after prize giving and support the 8:00am flag off of the URA Sunday.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please check through the frequently asked questions below. If you can't find the answer you're most welcome to drop us a question here.

Q: Why the change to Grade Races in 2019?

A: Grade racing "evens up" the field so that like skilled / strengthed riders race together, regardless of age and gender. The idea is to provide more competitive and safer racing for all.

Q: Why do i have to have a UCI / SCF license for A,B,C and D Grades?

A: These races carry 2019 National Series Points and all licensed riders will be given a grade (so that they can race).

Q: I understand E Grade does not need a license - only Race Insurance?

A: Yes that's correct. You can still purchase an annual license from SCF if you are E Grade and intending to win and move up to the higher grades.

Q: Where can I get a SCF Annual License from?

A: You can purchase the SCF Annual License and insurance from the Singapore Cycling Federation website.

Q: Can I register on the day?

A: No - You must register on the website and registration will be closing a few days before the event. Pickup of the chip / race pack will be at the event itself 30 minutes before the race starts.

Q: Do I need an SCF  or UCI licence for this race?

A: No, however, priority registration is given to licence holders for selected races. We do insist that you have adequate race insurance. Under the SCF licence / insurance scheme, there is a very good (and affordable licence insurance)

Q: Can I cancel my booking once entered?

A: No, once paid, your entry is confirmed. Cycosports has the right to transfer an entry (bib number) to another rider if the original participant is a "no-show" on the day. There will be no refund for "no shows".

Q: How can I warm up before my race?

A: Please use surrounding roads (non-circuit) and take caution and ensure you are back in time for your start time.

Q: Are Disk Brake Bikes allowed in these Races?

A: Yes.

Q: Do you have medics on hand in case of emergency?

A: Yes we have a full medical team (2 Ambulances) are stationed at the event.

Q: I'd like to help out (volunteer) on the day - is that possible?

A:Absolutely - we always need help running these events. Please drop us a message here.

We Need You!

Volunteer MarshalURA Criterium Rickshaw

The URA Criteriums always require 20 plus volunteers to ensure the many intersections on the course are safe. While the roads are closed, the circuit is "porous" with joggers, early morning party animals and others, potentially walking across the circuit.

To ensure members of the public and riders are all kept safe, volunteer marshals are needed and deployed on every intersection.

Volunteering gives you a first class seat to the morning's action as well as earning yourself (if not racing) or a friend valuable volunteer points for the season.

In addition to Marshals, each URA Criterium has an opportunity to "give back" to the community with teams volunteering for "rickshaw duty". Here a team will provide their muscle and charisma to take the elderly around the Padang on the rickshaws. It has always proven a hit with clubs and a fun time is had by all.
